It's white crystal or powder, no foul. Soluble in water (When 0 degree, 12.55g/100ml water; When 80 degree,283g/100ml water), at 33.4 degree the maximum solubility of about 28%, the aqueous solution is alkaline. Slightly soluble in alcohol, insoluble in liquid chlorine, ammonia. Easily oxidized in air into sodium, when the temperature is decomposed into sodium sulfide.
