GHRP-6, a peptide with sequence H(d-W)AW(d-F)K-NH2, is a ghrelin receptor agonist, which has previously been reported to increase gastric emptying in normal rats. Astudy investigated the prokinetic effect of GHRP-6 in a mouse model of diabetes mellitus have shown that GHRP-6 can accelerate delayed gastric emptying (GE) and intestinal transit (IT), but has no effect on colonic transit (CT) in diabetic mice, which implied that GHRP-6 may exert its prokinetic effects via the cholinergic pathway in the enteric nervous system, and therefore, may have therapeutic potential for diabetic patients with delayed upper gastrointestinal transit.

Lyophilized GHRP-6 although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -20°C.Upon reconstitution GHRP-6 should be stored at 2-8°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -20°C.For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Avoid multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
